“Aunque son muchos los logros, que han obtenido las mujeres, queda mucho camino por recorrer, quedan muchas batallas por librar, en espacios donde continúan siendo relegadas a un papel de subordinación y degradación de su valía”, manifestó el rector del Tecnológico de Antioquia, Leonardo García Botero, durante la presentación de la Cátedra abierta “Derecho humanos de las mujeres”, en el marco de conmemoración del Día Internacional de la Mujer y el primer año de funcionamiento del Consultorio Jurídico y Centro de Conciliación “Sofía Medina de López” de la Institución Universitaria, la cual tuvo como ponente a Karena Caselles Hernández, magistrada de la Corte Constitucional de Colombia.
El doctor García Botero, resaltó la importancia de todas las mujeres, en esta fecha en la que se conmemora la lucha por sus derechos, no solo en la sociedad sino en cada uno de los roles que asumen constantemente, así como la conquista de sus más diversas reivindicaciones en los ámbitos político, social, cultural, económico y jurídico.
“Las mujeres, sabemos, vienen luchando para cerrar las brechas de desigualdad que se presentan en su entorno, los estereotipos que durante décadas han sido impuestos y, es así, como en la actualidad asumen un papel preponderante en todos los escenarios” y no obstante reconocer que han logrado muchos avances en sus luchas precisó que: “Es menester, continuar concientizando a la sociedad, seguir implementando estrategias preventivas para eliminar de manera efectiva, la discriminación que aún hoy, se sigue presentando. Y peor, aún, las violencias contra la mujer que, sabemos, se siguen dando”. A renglón seguido, expresó que: “Es nuestro deber acompañar estas luchas para la promoción, la garantía y la protección de sus derechos”.
Con relación a la presencia de la doctora Karena Calleses Hernández, quien es abogada especialista en Derecho Constitucional y en Derecho Administrativo. magister en Derecho con énfasis en Derecho del Trabajo y doctoranda en Derecho de la Universidad Complutense de Madrid, Leonardo García Botero, manifestó que se trata de una invitada de lujo: “Es un honor no solo para mí como rector del Tecnológico de Antioquia, sino para toda la comunidad académica del TdeA, contar con presencia. Le doy una cordial bienvenida, lo mismo a todos los que siguen la cátedra abierta, hoy 8 de marzo, donde precisamente estamos conmemorando el Día Internacional de la Mujer”.
En el Tecnológico de Antioquia, la efeméride se festejó con un evento denominado “Pisando fuerte”, que incluyó una serie de actividades académicas y culturales en distintos espacios del campus universitario, como un reconocimiento y un ejercicio efectivo por los derechos de todas las mujeres.

"We must raise awareness in society to eliminate discrimination and violence against women": Leonardo García Botero
"Although there are many achievements, which women have obtained, there is a long way to go, there are many battles to be fought, in spaces where they continue to be relegated to a role of subordination and degradation of their worth," said the president of Tecnológico de Antioquia, Leonardo García Botero, during the presentation of the Open Lecture "Human Rights for Women," in the framework of commemoration of International Women's Day and the first year of operation of the Legal Office and Conciliation Center "Sofía Medina de López" of the University Institution, which had as speaker Karena Caselles Hernández, magistrate of the Constitutional Court of Colombia.
President García Botero highlighted the importance of all women, on this date in which the struggle for their rights is commemorated, not only in society but in each of the roles they constantly assume, as well as the conquest of their most diverse demands in the political, social, cultural, economic, and legal fields.
"Women, we know, have been fighting to close the inequality gaps that have arise in their surroundings, the stereotypes that have been imposed for decades and, thus, how they currently assume a preponderant role in all scenarios" and despite recognizing that they have made many advances in their struggles, he said that: "It is necessary, to continue raising awareness in society, continue implementing preventive strategies to effectively eliminate the discrimination that even today, continues to occur. And worse, still, the violence against women that, we know, continues to occur." He then said that: "It is our duty to support these struggles for the promotion, guarantee and protection of their rights."
Regarding the presence of Dr. Karena Calleses Hernández, who is a lawyer specializing in Constitutional Law and Administrative Law. Leonardo García Botero, with a master's degree in Law with an emphasis in Labor Law and a PhD candidate in Law from the Complutense University of Madrid, said that she is a luxury guest: "It is an honor, not only for me as president of the Tecnológico de Antioquia, but for the entire academic community of the TdeA, to have her participation. I give a cordial welcome, as well as to all those who follow the open lecture, today, March 8, where we are precisely commemorating International Women's Day."
In the Tecnológico de Antioquia, the anniversary was celebrated with an event titled "Pisando Fuerte," (Strong Steps) which included a series of academic and cultural activities in different spaces of the university campus, as a recognition and an effective exercise for the rights of all women.
